Shipwreck - helping you understand the male mind!

‘Can You’ versus ‘Would You’

» By Shipwreck - Oct 27th, 2007

Ladies, I’m about to let you in on a very powerful tool - you can use this to make men your very own puppets. Admittedly the male mind is quite simplistic. A good example is when we are asked to do something. Lad

“Honey, can you make love to me?”
“Sweetheart, can you tidy the kitchen?”
“Cutiepie, can you buy me those shoes?”

When a guy hears these questions, he automatically disects the question based on ‘ability’.

“Yes, of course I can make love to you…but I’m busy”
“I can tidy the kitchen, but I’m not going to”
“Yes, but I’d rather spend my money on my car”

Here’s the secret…

Change ‘Can You’ to ‘Would You’…it no longer becomes a question of ‘ability’, and as a result takes out the potential for sarcasm.

  1. Do you mean that if I say “would you wash the dishes” that there is more chance that the guy will do so rather than if I say “could you wash the dishes?”. I know that he could and he knows that he could but if he doesn’t FEEL like it then there’s fat chance that it will happen.

  2. Hi Thelma,

    Thanks for your comment.

Believe it or not, your chances of getting a guy to wash the dishes increases significantly with the ‘will you’ versus ‘could you’ trick. Indeed, he may not feel like it, but the phraseology of the question in fact can make a big difference. Men will always be men of course, but give it a go and see if it makes a difference for you.

    Thanks again for your feedback!

    Shipwreck xx
